There is no way to compare Sally's with any other Pizza place but Modern is #2 in my book and as they say, we try harder |

I grew up in New Haven, and was spoiled by the availability of great pizza. The Wooster St. area has always had a reputation for excellence and it was commonplace to see long lines at night. Over the years, my journey has taken me to most of the big cities in the USA, as well as to 3 other continents. I have sampled the best pizza that those cities (and even some countries) have to offer, and NONE compare to Modern. In over 30-years searching for the ultimate pizza, I have never found any pizza that was as delicious as Modern's. Order a simple "plain pie", with just sauce and grated cheese, and prepare yourself for the inescapable feelings of betrayal that will wash over you. You will realize how duped you have been by all the others. You will go home and order a pizza, from any other place, just to tell the delivery person, "Shame on you for calling this pizza!" You will never again be fooled by the notion that you need a laundry list of toppings to make a pizza edible. |

I've lived in New Haven for six years now and have extensively sampled all of the notable pizza restaraunts. Modern is far-and-away my favorite. Pepe's, Sally's, and Bar are distant runners ups. The ambience is perfect, service is quick and friendly, and several of the waitresses are drop-dead grogeous. Always a bonus! |

I used to be able to reserve a table at another nearby pizza place but I just could not take the politics of getting served or the wait. Me and my gomba, Mike P. started going to Modern. It was a 9 on a scale of 10 but service was fast and all around a better experience....and we went once a week. I have since moved to Stuart FL and the pizza ^!^!^!&!&! down here.

Most reviews of New Haven Pizza rank Modern third after Pepe's and Sally's. For classic red pies from the brick oven (the only way to cook them), Modern is #1 hands down. Pepe's is the undisputed king of the white clam pizza but there it ends. |

Very good apizza. Not as good as Sally's or Pepe's, but about as good as Bru Rm's. The advantage is better parking and shorter wait than the Wooster St. places. |
