Big Ed's Pizza 865-482-4885
101 Broadway Ave.
Oak Ridge, TN 37830

Big Ed's is an Oak Ridge tradition. The restaurant is housed in an old, dark, high-ceilinged storefront in Oak Ridge's original townsite district. Under founder "Big Ed" Neusel, the restaurant served up pizza, beer, and soft drinks; jobs for generations of local high school students (many of whom considered Big Ed a second father); support for local high school sports; and local color for myriad U.S. and foreign visitors to the city.

Nothing much has changed since Big Ed's death. The restaurant is still operated by members of the Neusel family, still serves the same food and drink, and still is decorated with an eclectic mixture of sports artifacts, memorabilia from past visitors to the restaurant, and photos and caricatures of the oversized figure of Big Ed himself.

The best anywhere... Nov 18th, 2005
I'm 54 years old and have eaten Pizza all over the world. Big Ed's is the absolute best. 30 years and 50 or so lbs later it's a weekly affair.

LOCAL US ARMY SOLDIER LOVES BIG ED'S Nov 8th, 2005
I grew up in Clinton Tennessee and I used to make the trip once a week with my grandmother, my mother and my two brothers along with all 4 of my cousins and there parents. See anyone that is looking for something extravagant (city slickers) is definately in the wrong place. See BIG ED is a simple man, but some of the greatest pleasures in life are the "simple things". Everytime I get the chance to go back home to visit I go out of my way to go and eat there. I have even taken some of my Army buddies there and they still rave about it to this day. They ask me all the time, hey SGT Miller when you going back home so that you can bring us some Big Ed's Pizza back? Everytime I pick up about three to four pizzas to take back for these great soldiers and defenders of our nation, can that many soldiers really be wrong about the greatest pizza in the world? I do not think so!!!

I grew up on Big Ed's Aug 25th, 2005
I moved to Oak Ridge when I was 3. I now live in Alabama, but my dad still lives in Oak Ridge. Every chance I get to go see him, I have to include a trip to Big Ed's. My husband wore his t-shirt on our honeymoon in New Orleans and people were stopping him and saying "I've been there!"

Best Pizza this side of Chicago Aug 25th, 2005
OK, I confess. I grew up in Oak Ridge in the old days after moving from Chicago. IMO, Chicago-style pizza will always be the best, but Big Ed's is right up there with it. It's not deep dish, but the crust is perfect, the sauce and toppings great, and I had many romantic evenings there when I was a grad student at UT many years ago.

Good Ole' Big Ed's Aug 7th, 2005
I love reading how the plates are paper, napkins are the size of postage stamps, the forks are plastic, and the room is dim. Listen folks, it's called "ambiance" or "atmosphere." These kind of things make a place. If you want "real" plates, forks, and napkins, stay home and order a pizza. Big Ed's is not a 5 star dining facility, it's a pizza joint.

The service may not be the best, but consider the staff; local high school kids. The service shouldn't matter much because, again, it's a pizza joint. I would go to have fun, talk sports, and converse with everyone in there. This adds to the atmosphere. If it takes a while to get the pizza, so what? Have fun, eat pizza, drink beer or soda, let the kids run up and get a hand full of cheese, and laugh the night away with your friends.

The pizza is tops, no matter what a few dissatisfied customers say. It's very typical to hear, or in this case, read bad reviews. Many internet sites have terrible reviews for the place. People naturally voice their negative opinions more so than positive ones. It's basic marketing. I say the pizza is great and I am always right! Just ask all my ex-girlfriends! (Lighten up, I'm only kidding around.)

My big question to all the negative comments is, "If it's such a terrible place, why is it always packed?"
Eat Big Ed's pizza!!!!!!! Go now! Hurry!

Cost Aug 2nd, 2005
I have lived in the area most all my life. Traveled the world and eat a lot of pizza. Hadn't been to Big Ed's in a long time. The Pizza was decent and the service good. The cost was unreasonable. $45.00 for two house pizzas to go, is too much.
