I recently went there for the first time and must say they have the best pizza I ever tasted. Reminiscent of the way I perceived the pizza in the movie "Mystic Pizza" would taste. I found the staff polite and accomodating and feel the restaurant is a bit small for the burgeoning UW-Tacoma crowd. I definitely recommend it. |

On a recent trip to Washington visiting family, I came upon the Rock Pasta from a friend's tip. Living in Maine, the only theme a restaurant can seem to embrace invariably revolves around the lobster. So, having the chance to devour a pizza while listening to Def Leppard was too much to pass up. The atmosphere wasn't quite as rockin' as I had hoped for, but the people were. It was hard at times to distinguish staff from clientelle but whoever happened to be around seemed helpful regardless of their status. The standout, though, was my waitress Manda. The drink was great and for some one who "grew up" on heavy stouts, the Jumpin' Jack Black was the taste of home. The Yellow Brick Road is the in-house equivilent of a hawaiian pizza and was fine. I feel now like I should have been a little more adventerous. I whole heartedly recommend the Alder Chips... YUMMY!
Good Beer, Good Service and Food... Great Concept! |

That's what my husband said about the chicken wings. The pizza rated "...about the best I ever had". And my husband has had more pizza and wings that anybody.
I have to agree on the wings. The sauce is original and just the right amount of heat (spice). The pizza was great...just not quite as great as my own...but hey, I didn't have to do dishes. The various combinations sounded interesting and good...so I guess we'll have to make a few trips back.
The Porter was good as well. |

Rock Pasta has great, although a little unusual, pizza. Their pizzas combine things you wouldn't normally find on a pizza like capers and walnuts. Their brown sugar mozzarella bread sounds odd but is addictive. The "Rock" Pasta comes from the rock album covers lining the walls (Jethro Tull, Meatloaf.) |

This restaurant has the best pizza I have ever had. The Bat Out of Hell is the best of the best in spicy, delicious, wood-fired pizzas. But be prepared for some of the worst service in Tacoma. We used to dine there 1-2 times a week and have finally stopped going altogether because it has been 6 months or so since we didn't have horrid service. The staff is unapologetic and wrapped up in their own personal affairs rather than getting a correct, timely order to your table.
It is really a shame as it is the best place in Tacoma to eat pizza and pasta. If you've got the time and patience, try the Elvis Sighting or Smoke on the Water, in addition to the Bat Out Of Hell. If it gets to your table, you'll love it. |
